What to Expect Your First Session

You’ve decided to start therapy. In this section, we will explore what starting therapy will look like. In your first session, things will be slightly different than those that follow. We will become acquainted with each other and finish completing any necessary paperwork, and collect payment. First, don’t worry about the details. Second, if you have any questions, you can ask them then. In the first counseling session, we will be able to guide you through any problems that may come up. Therapy is founded on trust and transparency. We are committed to both in all aspects of our work. 

Each therapy session will be 50 minutes long. Don’t worry, you do not need to watch the clock.  In the first session of therapy, we will be getting to know one another, learning to feel comfortable and figuring out why you have decided to seek therapy. You do not have to come prepared in any way. Just bring yourself. We will figure out the rest together!  In your first therapy session, will address your expectations and ours in relation to length of therapy, time in between therapy sessions, type of treatment, and confidentiality. If you have questions, please feel comfortable to ask those as well! Advocate for your needs. We will always listen. What to Expect After Your First Session

In sessions that follow, we will create your treatment plan goals (what you want to accomplish during our sessions), and then work on those goals. Importantly, we will check in regularly regarding where you are at in your treatment plan, and adjust as needed. In addition, if you ever feel we need to change directions or address something differently, please say so. We will have an open relationship and communication is essential.
